Overactive Bladder
Overactive Bladder (OAB) can affect men and women at all life stages. It affects daily life activities and can be physically and emotionally challenging. PTNS, or Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation, is a minimally invasive acupuncture procedure used to address overactive bladder (OAB) by targeting the underlying nerve activity responsible for bladder control. During PTNS, a thin needle is inserted near the ankle, which is connected to a device that generates electrical impulses. These impulses are then delivered to the tibial nerve, which plays a crucial role in regulating bladder function. By stimulating this nerve, PTNS can help modulate the over activity of the bladder, reduce urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence associated with OAB, and improve overall bladder control.
This non-surgical approach is a valuable option for individuals seeking relief from OAB symptoms with minimal discomfort and minimal side affects (usually just a slight bruise near needle site). Unlike medical professionals that just utilize the PTNM device for the tibial nerve stimulation, at Knots & Bolts Therapy, we incorporate an entire whole body approach with a full acupuncture treatment in addition to the targeted tibial nerve. Multiple factors and body systems must be considered, including the nervous system (CNS and PNS), hormonal system, urinary, muscular, vascular and behavioral/psychological factors for being triggers for OA.
* note: This comprehensive whole body approach and PTNS (aka PTNM) stimulation treatment will be available as of August 2024!
